So, I got really lazy the past couple of years and got really out of shape. Didn’t really touch the bike. Lost all those base miles I had built up. Ballooned like a puffer fish. I went from 169 pounds to 2xsesgc&$^@++++ [CARRIER LOST]

Well, started cycling again a couple of weeks ago and man, it sucks right now. Muscles hurt, hills hurt, everything hurts.

Right now I’m doing 20 miles on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday. and 10 miles on Tuesday to recover. I won’t be doing my really long weekend rides for a while until I can get back those base miles. Little by little I’ll be adding miles to the Sunday ride.

Man, it sucks carrying that extra weight up those hills.

I did find a new site to keep track of the exercise, weight and food. It’s traineo (see info box above; only viewable from the main page and from the Cycling category posts). It is web 2.0′ish and pretty easy to navigate. It does not have the food database Fitday has but I like the info buttons like the one above. Right now I’m showing the calories burned one until I can lose some more weight and I can then show the weight to go or weight lost one.

We got to the fair about 10AM and I think, from now on, this is when we should go to the fair. We were able to park one block from the fairgrounds, the fairgrounds were easy to navigate and there weren’t many people there. I just wanted to point out that I posted many pictures in the moblog while there. Check’em out… I’ll let Tommie fill you in on the rest.

Now, let’s talk about the Cowboys… I’m so glad they beat those pesky Giants. Now they are 4-2 and in first place in the NFC East… It wasn’t a very pretty game with 8 overall turnovers (4 a piece) but the defense held the Giants for most of the game and that is now 2 weeks in a row when the defense showed me something. Keep it going ‘boys.

Good morning everybody and what a glorious morning it is. I didn’t write much on the post last night because I was very tired and because I was still a little incredulous that my (not your ) Texas Longhorns had come back to beat the Buckeyes at THE Horseshoe. Alright, it’s confession time. All the hype this week had me worried. All the talk of Vince Young had me worried. All the smack the players were talking had me worried. I knew our team was good but I still had some doubts. Could Young pass if his running got stopped? Could our DB’s cover those amazingly fast WR’s OSU has? More importantly, could our WR’s come out and support Young? And the most important, could our kicking team make the PAT’s?

All the questions were answered last night. Vince Young came out on the first drive and was his usual self. Rushed for a ton of yards and the Horns scored. But the OSU defense adapted and answered and held Young in check for the rest of the game. But then, in the third quarter, I saw something that made my ears perk up. Young dropped back to pass and after dodging a sack he threw the ball down the field to Pittman for a 60 yard gain. Young made the OSU defense pay for their blitz with his arm. It looked like that play revitalized Young’s arm as he was deadly accurate after that. And to put the capper on that, to win the game, he didn’t make a miraculous run making everyone on the defense look stupid. He took what the OSU defense gave him and that was touch pass to the corner of the end zone to Sweed.

I’m not saying that Young’s outing was spotless. He did have 2 interceptions in this game. One was squarely his fault as he tried to pass while getting tackled and threw the ball directly to a line backer (man, those linebackers for OSU are good) and the second was an amazing play by the OSU linebackers (did I say they were good?) to pop the pass in the air for another linebacker to get it. Also, our defense came out and had the greatest outing I’ve seen in any of their games. They just didn’t allow OSU’s offense to get into the end zone. OSU was in the red zone 4 time and 3 out of those 4 the defense didn’t allow the Buckeyes have 7. They had to settle for FG’s and at the same time keeping the Horns in the game. If it wasn’t for that amazing defense we would’ve been blown out.

I’m also not saying that Vince Young can walk on water but we are seeing something very special. There may be better arms out there in college football but I don’t think there is a better football player out there than Vince Young. After the Rose Bowl at the end of last season and after this higly hyped game, the Longhorns have something that makes them deadly….confidence… Now we have to be careful. We don’t want a TCU to beat us because we got over-confident…

We’ll, I’ll get off my soap box now and just say…GO HORNS!

I am so happy that the playoffs are over and that they are over with a championship for the Spurs. I’ve just gotten too into these games. Notice the lack of posts on the blog about the games? I just felt that I was following these games a little too closely and didn’t want to put it on here. BUt now, the Spurs are champions and I am going to finally get a good nights sleep.

Saturday morning I tried to go out for a short ride (hadn’t been out in a while) and, I swear, the wind must’ve been blowing at around 30 miles per hour. Check that, just went to Wunderground to check their almanac and found out it was blowing at around 37 miles per hour. Needless to say, my ride didn’t last long as even when I was going downhill, it felt like I was going uphill with that head wind. Decided to try my luck Sunday morning.

Sunday morning rolls around, it’s around 7:45 A.M., I wake up and look out the window. Not a cloud in the sky, sunny…so far so good… This time I play it smart and check the wind forecast for today…calm…still doing good… One little hiccup: it is 27 degrees Fahrenheit… Still, I’m not fazed by the prospect of riding in subfreezing weather. I’ve been out there, riding, in the upper 30′s to lower 40′s and it wasn’t that bad. I put on my leg and arm warmers, my wind breaker under-shirt, long fingered gloves and saran wrap my sock covered toes to keep the wind out. I was ready…

Literally, ten minutes after starting my ride my fingers and toes are frozen. It hurts a little but I haven’t been out here riding in a while and they’ll go numb, hopefully, in a bit… By shear will power I make it out 10 miles out and just the thought of that hot shower after I get home brings me in. After I get home, I make sure that I still have feeling in all my limbs and actually, the rest of my body was fine. It was just my fingers and toes. Lesson learned….if it is under 32 degrees F wear thicker gloves and warmer socks.

To add insult to injury, before the ride I forgot to take my allergy medicine and had some kind of allergic reaction on my thighs, stomach and back that started itching like crazy after I got home…

I still say it was a good ride…I could definitely tell I hadn’t ridden in a couple of weeks. I can’t wait until the time changes so I can start riding on weekday afternoons again. Welp, here’s looking forward to next Saturday…
