Recap

Good morning everybody and what a glorious morning it is. I didn’t write much on the post last night because I was very tired and because I was still a little incredulous that my (not your ) Texas Longhorns had come back to beat the Buckeyes at THE Horseshoe. Alright, it’s confession time. All the hype this week had me worried. All the talk of Vince Young had me worried. All the smack the players were talking had me worried. I knew our team was good but I still had some doubts. Could Young pass if his running got stopped? Could our DB’s cover those amazingly fast WR’s OSU has? More importantly, could our WR’s come out and support Young? And the most important, could our kicking team make the PAT’s?

All the questions were answered last night. Vince Young came out on the first drive and was his usual self. Rushed for a ton of yards and the Horns scored. But the OSU defense adapted and answered and held Young in check for the rest of the game. But then, in the third quarter, I saw something that made my ears perk up. Young dropped back to pass and after dodging a sack he threw the ball down the field to Pittman for a 60 yard gain. Young made the OSU defense pay for their blitz with his arm. It looked like that play revitalized Young’s arm as he was deadly accurate after that. And to put the capper on that, to win the game, he didn’t make a miraculous run making everyone on the defense look stupid. He took what the OSU defense gave him and that was touch pass to the corner of the end zone to Sweed.

I’m not saying that Young’s outing was spotless. He did have 2 interceptions in this game. One was squarely his fault as he tried to pass while getting tackled and threw the ball directly to a line backer (man, those linebackers for OSU are good) and the second was an amazing play by the OSU linebackers (did I say they were good?) to pop the pass in the air for another linebacker to get it. Also, our defense came out and had the greatest outing I’ve seen in any of their games. They just didn’t allow OSU’s offense to get into the end zone. OSU was in the red zone 4 time and 3 out of those 4 the defense didn’t allow the Buckeyes have 7. They had to settle for FG’s and at the same time keeping the Horns in the game. If it wasn’t for that amazing defense we would’ve been blown out.

I’m also not saying that Vince Young can walk on water but we are seeing something very special. There may be better arms out there in college football but I don’t think there is a better football player out there than Vince Young. After the Rose Bowl at the end of last season and after this higly hyped game, the Longhorns have something that makes them deadly….confidence… Now we have to be careful. We don’t want a TCU to beat us because we got over-confident…

We’ll, I’ll get off my soap box now and just say…GO HORNS!

University of Texas Baseball has swept the Unviersity of Florida to win the College World Series.

It was an exciting game. Texas pitching was brutal only allowing 2 runs in each game.

I hate to find amusement in others misfortunes but it felt really good to watch USC whoop OU last night in the Orange Bowl. I actually stopped watching at 35-10. Had no idea that the game’s final score was 55-19 until this morning.

I was reading an article on ESPN.com and this part made me laugh out loud:

“This game so completely knocked the swagger out of the Sooners that they now know what it’s like to be Baylor.”

It looked more amazing than palying the game on Xbox. Vince Young just…I don’t know…I don’t know how to explain it…he was just amazing…watch some video of the game…

I like this part of the ESPN.com article talking abut Vince Young:

“His final statistics were, well, video-game like. As if he were playing against the computer. On beginner.”

I know I lost a couple of years of my life watching this game. Back and forth…Texas goes ahead…Michigan ties….Michigan goes ahead…and then the dream ending for the Rose Bowl committee…Mangum kicking to win the game with 2 seconds left…

It looks like Texas edged Cal by thirteen one thousands of a point. I am really happy that Texas is going to a big bowl (finally) but Cal also deserved to be in a big bowl. The BCS still sucks even though Texas is going to the Rose Bowl.

Oh well, Hook’em Horns!…

Texas beat arch-rival Texas A&M 26-13 to end the season at 10-1 and number 5 in the BCS. But, because of the BCS’ screwed up rules, Texas will not get a big bowl bearth. I know you will say “all they have to do is beat OU”. You are right, but still doesn’t make it fair.

As ESPN.com put it, “For the second straight year, Texas has 10 wins, is No. 5 in the BCS Standings and, again, may be shut out of the BCS. After beating Texas A&M for the fifth straight time, Texas is left hoping for help to overtake Cal for the final BCS bid.”

What can I say – just tip my hat and call the Sooners my daddy. I can’t find a way to beat them at this point.

The defense stayed out there way too long. OU just force fed Texas the run. The rain played a big part in the game as neither team could really get the pass going. The really sad part is that OU’s running back is only a freshman…three more years of him running of all over the place.

Maybe next year? or, what I really should say is: when is it going to be next year?

Oh, and what’s up with TTech? Puting up 70 points on Nebraska…dayum

Our friend Marcus has a friend that is going out of town this weekend and offered me the ticket at face value…

Update: got the ticket…I’m sitting in section 109, ROW 2, seat 23.

Update: Well, I don’t know whats worse…losing 65-13 or losing 12-0…[sigh]

So, Tommie’s friend (who is a Texas football season ticket holder…thanks Marcus!) had an extra couple of tickets to the Texas vs. UNT game on Saturday. Tommie’s mom and sister were coming into town that same weekend so I got the green light to go to Austin all by my lonesome. I invited Lawrence to come watch the game with me (don’t worry Lyndon, there are more tickets to come ).

Packed up the truck and headed down to Austin Friday afternoon to miss some of the traffic. The drive was actually not that bad. Only hit traffic when I got to Temple. After getting into Austin, I had some time to kill so I headed to the Coop and bought me some t-shirts and a cap. Well, that killed about 10 minutes and Lawrence, Jessica, Richard and Ahn had still about 2 hours until they got into town. Decided to go to Lyndon and Kathie’s place (again, thanks guys for letting me crash at your pad) and hang out for a bit. This was my first time to their place and let me just say it looks awesome… the house does really look great guys…

Now, for this trip, the diet was completely off and I was taking FULL advantage of this. We met the guys at Shady Grove (lived 7 years in Austin and never went) and had an excellent chicken fried steak with green chile sauce on it…yum…fried food, how I miss you… Went back to Lyn and Kat’s place for some Texas Hold’em, beer and Xbox…what a great combination…:smile: I actually did pretty good for my first time playing Hold’em…I swear, it’s all business when these people play…the amount of trash talking is, well, let’s just say it more than just a ‘friendly’ game…cut to me going to sleep…time: 4:30AM…

On Saturday, more food… we went to Trudy’s North Star for brunch… I wanted everything on the buffet…twice… To say the least, I was dying when we got back to the house Nothing like working the food down with more Xbox…

Lawrence and I took off for the game and had a lot of fun watching Texas completely pummel UNT to a final of 65-0…it was fun…Marcus & Shannon were there and it was just really cool to finally talk football. I’m so tired of baseball… WOOHOO! FOOTBALL SEASON IS HERE!…ahem, sorry, slipped out…

That night, more great food…Rudy’s BBQ. Definetly ate with my eyes there as I got enough food to feed 3 people…man, that BBQ is good… After we got back to the house, more Hold’em and Xbox. Wasn’t as lucky on Saturday night as on Friday night… cut to me going to sleep… 4:30AM … again …

On Sunday, more food…Chicago style pizza this time and it was really good and for dessert, shaved ice…

I decided to head back to Dallas on Sunday instead of Monday…I missed Isabel (and you too Tommie )…the drive was super easy. It is, I think, the easiest drive I’ve ever had from Austin to Dallas. I made it home just fine. I struggled to stay awake though. Those 2 nights (or mornings, I should say) of staying up until 4:30AM caught up to me. I did make it til 10PM but as soon as my head touched my pillow, I was out…

On Monday, Tommie made burgers and hot dogs on the grill and I ate a bunch (hmm, I think eating was the theme of the weekend). After that, just relaxing and hanging out…

That was a great weekend…

Weight tally: On Friday – 180.8, On Monday – 185.6 … lol

EDIT: I would be remiss not to mention that the person that took me out both times on Texas Hold’em was none other that Jessica…don’t mess with a pregnant lady…

One thing I don’t understand… LSU wins the “championship” at the Sugar Bowl over OU and they are ranked number 3 behind OU (also, remember that OU lost the Big XII Championship to Kansas State)…
